Chair Recovery

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Guess what I did this weekend? Recovered my dining room chairs!
We picked them up at a thrift store about 6 months ago with every intention of recovering them nigh immediately… but, as my kindergarten progress report noted, I work at my own pace.

I’m not blame throwing or anything here, but things move a lot more slowly since Chris is just as opinionated as I am about Every. Single. Thing. WEEKS were spent going back and forth on the font for our wedding invitations, and each step taken in the house is even more of a struggle. FINALLY we agreed on a fabric and I think they look pret-ty good, if I do say so myself. If you’re interested, the winning fabric was Etsuko Furuya’s Echino – Bird and Flower in khaki.

So yes, chairs recovered. I no longer have to awkwardly explain the weird, faded out pastel jungle tapestry that we replaced. Maybe next year the chairs will even be refinished!

Embroidered Linen Fabric of DOOM

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

See that there? That’s a Blueprint clipping from 19diggity7 which shows a swatch of THE PERFECT fabric for my kitchen roller shades. For two months I’ve had the fabric sample in my purse, but at $42.95 a yard I was having trouble bucking up the courage to up and call. There are children starving who need new shoes and all. But this morning I was sick of the swatch’s high end taunting, and I finally, FINALLY, made the call to place the order. After all, that’s why I have a credit card, right?

So I called up B & J Fabrics (the only resale source for the fabric that I’ve been able to track down), and now it looks like they may be out of stock. Well. Of course they are.

I’m calling upon the powers of the blogosphere to aid me in sending good thoughts and unicorns to B & J’s so that they will call back with good news tomorrow. Just in case my embroidered linen world crumbles, does anyone out there have any suggestions for another source? Perhaps a suitable replacement? The fate of my kitchen is in your hands!

Purl "Rabbit" Doll

Monday, January 15th, 2007

As previously stated, it is FREEZING in Oklahoma this weekend. No really… there is literally a sheet of ice blanketing the entire world. I haven’t been able to feel my big toe since Friday morning. Sometimes it’s nice to be forced indoors all weekend. I drank three pots of coffee a day and got a lot of sewing done. Yay for manic, caffeine enduced creativity.
This doll was made using the Purl Rabbit Pattern that is very generously posted free of charge on The Purl Bee blog. As you can probably tell. I modified it a bit (lack of being a rabbit, for one).

Beautiful fabric from Japanese designer Shinzi Katoh available at… but not for long. As of this posting there’s only one left. So hurry! Quick!
One meter of fabric for $19.95 would be hard for me to justify. Not to mention that the package would sit on my shelf indefinitely, since I would certainly be too intimidated by its rarity to use it. But you should buy it, cause it’s fantastic. And you should make fantastic things from it.
