Tuesday night Chris and I made an offer on a home and we still haven't heard whether or not it was accepted. Part of me knows that there is no way we'll get the house. Everything is working out a little too well and it just doesn't sit right with my inner pessimist. The other part of me is ripping pages out of decorating magazines and has already picked out the perfect tile for the kitchen back splash.
Chris is just as bad though. He spends his time absent mindedly drawing out the house's floor plan while discussing landscaping. We'll debate which room has the best light for the studio and in the next breath whisper "...ohgodohgodohgod we're not going to get it..." while rocking back and forth.

Realtors take a perverse pleasure in playing with people's emotions... I just know it.

Speaking of tragically premature plans...

I bought these small mixed media collages for the new kitchen from etsy artist,Sushipot. Each collage is a 2 1/2" square and comes mounted on a greeting card.

I don't crochet... but if you do then you need to buy this tote from Scary Go Round, and you need to do it immediately. Trust me.

If you're not into hobbies that involve hooks and yarn, then follow this link to Scary go Round anyway and enjoy some high quality web comics involving Brits and the paranormal.

As previously stated, it is FREEZING in Oklahoma this weekend. No really... there is literally a sheet of ice blanketing the entire world. I haven't been able to feel my big toe since Friday morning. Sometimes it's nice to be forced indoors all weekend. I drank three pots of coffee a day and got a lot of sewing done. Yay for manic, caffeine enduced creativity.
This doll was made using the Purl Rabbit Pattern that is very generously posted free of charge on The Purl Bee blog. As you can probably tell. I modified it a bit (lack of being a rabbit, for one).

Beautiful fabric from Japanese designer Shinzi Katoh available at Superbuzzy.com... but not for long. As of this posting there's only one left. So hurry! Quick!
One meter of fabric for $19.95 would be hard for me to justify. Not to mention that the package would sit on my shelf indefinitely, since I would certainly be too intimidated by its rarity to use it. But you should buy it, cause it's fantastic. And you should make fantastic things from it.

Someday the above cathedral window quilt will be adorning our bed. Cool eh? Chris' mom intended the quilt to be our wedding present but it's turning into more of a first anniversary present.
Neither Chris nor I knew much about quilting when she first made her generous quilting offer so we unknowingly requested one of the most tricky and time consuming quilts out there. I'm sure she was thinking we would choose a nice wedding ring or sawtooth star pattern but nooooooo... we just had to be difficult. All her extra effort has been worth it though (to me at least!). The quilt looks fantastic and I'm completely in love with it. I can't wait till we take full custody of it and can put these short holiday visits behind us.

Chris' parents also offered us his grandmother's wrought iron bed. It had a nasty run in with some glittery copper car paint, but once we have it sandblasted it will look awesome with the cathedral window quilt. It's also missing its bedknobs and my search for an online bedknob retailer isn't bearing much fruit. Anyone know where we can find some?

How's about some Denyse Schmidt action?

A new scarf... just in time for more 70 degree weather. Made from thrifted wool coats, jackets and fancy pants in polyester. Also strips of Supper Buzzy's "Modern Asian Stripe" cotton fabric.

I ordered Denyse Schmidt's Quilts book a month or so ago and ever since I've been into the art of quiltmaking. I have a bad habit of "faking" when I teach myself a new craft and thus my technique is... well... less than polished. So I wanted to do this quilting thing right from the very beginning, before I ingrained terrible technique into my head. My good intentions were stymied when I found out that every class in Shawnee is wrapping up and I have to wait till January for a new schedule. Don't they understand that my quilt phase could be over by then!? I don't have that much time!!
So once again I'm on my own with only Denyse Schmidt and the internets to guide me.

Over the weekend I finished up the ubiquitous, yet wholly unnecessary, sewing machine cover. I can't believe I made it this far in life without one! I cut the pattern from the ugly plastic cover that originally came with the machine and loosely followed the instructions for Denyse's oven mitt. I have a lot to learn but, for a first attempt at quilting, it's not too shabby.

If you're in the Shawnee area and wouldn't mind adopting a novice quilter to mold and shape into batted greatness, please let me know!

Now that I'm all married up and wedding planning is a thing of the past, I can start participating in swaps again. What better way to get back in the swing of things than the 1st Annual Ornament Swap hosted by cake & pie and Freshly Blended.
Sign ups end November 1st so there's still plenty of time to mull it over and join with your bad self.

“In life as in dance: Grace glides on blistered feet”- Alice Abrams

I made this bag for my seester's birthday so that she would have something rad for the transportation of dance clothes. There's a matching cosmetic bag too for holding the thousands upon thousands of bobby pins that she requires. Hope she likes it!
Better than a beat up red duffle from the '80s!

(via inside a black apple) Visit Ashley (& Drew!) at kittygenius.com. Her pieces are gorgeous and I'm so glad to have discovered her work! I'll be keeping an eye on the etsy shop for more original work to be released (the last piece she posted was snatched up within minutes... I have such bad art buying luck).

It's not too late to get in on the ground floor of the Wee Wonderfuls Make-a-Long.

The challenge to follow along with Hillay's fantastically awesome crafts just coudn't go ignored. So patterns were bought, fabrics were chosen, and the weekend was set aside for my first experiments in doll making. I would've posted the finished "Olive and Archie" dolls but there was a bit of a set back tonight. Turns out that Archie has a terrible case of "squid head". His unfortunate state will soon be corrected. Pictures tomorrow? Perhaps.

Much fabric was bought. Apologies to the lady at Hancocks, who was very pleasant despite the fact that I changed my mind about 27,000 times.

Olive and Archie are on their way!

Labor Day...just...won't...die....

Okay, now it has. I'm done.
The final copy is at flickr. Download it at original size so you can make copies and pass it out to Starbucks workers and incite conflict in the workplace... be an organizer. Keep in mind that the poor thing was killed before the proofing process began so pass it out at your own risk.
