John Allison, the creator of Scary Go Round, has released a new tote- Once I Buy it, It's Safe. Which is true... this tote just won't be safe until I buy it... It's my solemn duty. I gotta show those exchange rates who's boss!
Not only is it a pretty rockin' and Earth friendly shopping bag...but by buying it you'll be supporting a fantastic webcomic which every single one of you should start reading immediately. No seriously... right now. This blog isn't even good, what are you still doing here?

I don't crochet... but if you do then you need to buy this tote from Scary Go Round, and you need to do it immediately. Trust me.

If you're not into hobbies that involve hooks and yarn, then follow this link to Scary go Round anyway and enjoy some high quality web comics involving Brits and the paranormal.

(that's not me)

How about a shirt to commemorate the demise of Pedro the Lion? You know you want it. You know it would make David Bazan's sad heart smile. Shoot, David probably owns three of them himself. Buy this shirt and then put a little music on your ghetto blaster. How about David Bazan's newish e.p. "Fewer Moving Parts"? Now you're all set to sit back, relax, and bask in the knowledge of your infinite hipness. Good thing Threadless shirts are selling for $10 until March 12th.

More t-shirts?! Enough with the t-shirts!

1. No More Blood for Oil, No Star 2. One Less Car, Defunker 3. Keep The Dream Alive, No Star 4. Losing Faith, One Horse Shy 5. I Brought This Upon Myself, Vintage Vantage 6. 100% Wool, Cotton Factory 7. Smiles are Contagious, No Star 8. Jinx! You Owe Me a Soda!, Snorg Tees 9. Bring your own Boo Ya!, Cotton Factory

No I haven't been playing World of Warcraft... I don't know what you're talking about. Hush.

And now, a note.

Dear Dental Hygenist,
You're a very nice girl so please don't take this the wrong way. What I have to tell you is out of love.
Dude. You've got to tone it down. I mean, really, your schtick might work on the under-12 set, but I don't like to be patted on the shoulder or called "dear" by a 19 year old. You may have an endearingly apologetic giggle but it doesn't change the fact that you almost suctioned my lip off while you were busy chatting about Britney's hair. Call me a "real little trooper" again and I just might have to take my teeth elsewhere.
See you in September!
Marissa
P.S. No, I did not "make up" my name. There are actually quite a few of us.

So right... posting... Threadless has some pretty awesome new designs. You should go check them out. I ordered a couple and wish I could order more. I was about to order one for The Chris but the last one I ordered didn't go over so well...order order order. Why, Threadless? After months of designs that didn't even remotely interest me, why do you have to release all the good ones at once?

Yes, I know Barack Obama is in the game. I'm still not sure what I think about that and I haven't decided whether I'm going to be all gung-ho supportive or hide under my comforter till next November. I asked my dad to "pretty please vote for Obama and I'll love you forever". He said no. If those kind of tactics don't work on your parents then they most likely won't work when canvassing door to door.

I do have my very own Obamaisgood.com T-shirt with which I proclaim to all of Shawmpton that, yes, Obama is good! I wear my shirt with pride...so far. Please Obama, don't hurt'em. All of our hopes and dreams are on the line.

A nice new Threadless design for a frigid, icey Monday morning. You know what's worse that having to work on a national holiday? Working a national holiday that's also a snow day. I miss grade school.

Okay, so I know Christmas is over and everything, but if you're sitting at home thinking "Oh lord! I forgot to buy Marissa a Christmas present! How will I live with my shame?!" Then calm down a minute and let me help. It's not too late!
May I suggest these lovely curtains from Urban Outfitters? These would look pretty fabulous in my studio, don't you think? Oh no, you don't have to buy me all four. Just one or two to help me on my way.
No? Then how about this lamp shade? Not the lamp itself– Chris told me that if I brought any more owl themed paraphernalia into the house there would be a little owly massacre. Evidently he thinks I have a problem. But, see, I have a new computer desk in the studio and it would look marvelous. I swear to you!

So... you know... think about it.

Yet another variation on the flower broach. I may be living under a giant rock that's shaped like Oklahoma, but I'd like to think that I've seen a few things in my day... and these broaches by Kate Cusack are the first I've seen using zippers. Pretty cool, uncommon goods. Pretty cool.

Have I mentioned that I love Pink Loves Brown? No?! Well... what have I been doing all this time?!
Pink Loves Brown is the web-child of Nicole Balch ("former face-painter, window-dresser, and dinosaur muralist" according to the site) and is the place for personalized paper good awesomeness.
My love for this site is healthy and natural and, don't worry, Nicole's been warned about me... she even sent me a lollipop... I think she might like me back!
Back when I was on The Knot I used to recommend her site to the point that the other Knotties began to suspect I was on her payroll. Her personlaized stationary and bookplates are the perfect gift for bridesmaids and hostesses. AWESOME! So there, now it's out there... and I feel so much better.

Have you voted yet?! DO IT!

I really like buyolympia.com, and not just for Nikki McClure... although her work is a big part of it. I like buyolympia.com so much that I wear their t-shirt proudly, even though I have to explain what it means to everyone I work with (or maybe because of that).
So here's new stuff to tempt me!

Have you ever looked at the word "chihuahua"? I mean really looked at it and sounded it out? Funny word. "Tchi-whoah-whoah". Heh.

Chris and I are desperately trying to devise a plan to lure trick-or-treaters to our house. We always buy the best candy, we carve kickin' jack o'lanterns, we leave the porch light on, we stay at home during the prime hours of 6 till 9... and we sit...and we wait...
Last year we had six kids. Six total. All night. Two of 'em weren't even in costumes (and had facial hair). If we don't have more kids this year than I'm afraid the spirit of Halloween will leave our household forever. Maybe I need more Halloween décor. The kids love festive seasonal décor!

Check out these vintage inspired designs from Christmas Traditions:

1.Wise up! Painted Tin Sign Chris absolutely hates it when I hang seasonal junk on the door. Somehow he always ends up hitting himself in the face. I bought this one anyway...I know it will be different this time.

2.Painted Tin Garland This will look awesome above the piano! For sure!

3.Set of three Owl Ornaments None of these for me, since I've been mocked for my recent increase in owl related purchases. My husband is so cruel.

4.Jack O' Lantern Paper Maché Basket I'd be all over this if I hadn't just read about making my own in Martha Stewart Living (this one's nearly sixty bucks).

5.Glittery Garland When you live in a house the size of a postage stamp, you can never have too much garland!

More halloween goodness!

1. Scary Pumpkin Head Rattle of Doom! It's peal will summon the apocalypse! ... maybe we'll leave this one alone. Vintage Halloween Store

2. Little Chenille Pumpkin Men Much more fuzzy and less unsettling than the rattle.Christmas Traditions

3. Halloween Vintage Picks For fancy cupcakes and for poking people. Vintage Halloween Store

4. Vintage Treat Bags These should be framed, not handed out to unappreciative and sticky-handed children! Spook Shows

5.Tin Cat Head Container Cause it's always fun to stick things in a cat's head. Christmas Traditions

I love how the crafty ladies of the web have intertwined etsy and flickr. While cruising the "I made it myself" group on Flickr, I found my way to Bookworm Sukie's etsy shop. This Canadian craftster has a plethora of beautifully designed blank books and notebooks for your perusal. Each cover is decorated with one of her original patterns. I love a girl with book binding skills!

This gift set is especially adorable.

You can see more of her patterns and crafts on Flickr.

Todays cool stuff I wish I could buy comes courtesy of Ruby Gallery in San Francisco.
The site is still in the "under construction" stage so several of the links are broken or empty. It's worth a visit though, just to check out these lovely resin necklaces. I'm anxious to see what other offerings they come up with!

After a long hiatus DeMarco Designs has finally reopened! Owner & artist, Mariah DeMarco, was off doing important things like creating custom projects and giving free stuff to celebrities, among other projects, but now she's come back to us!
For those of us who still practice the art of the handwritten letter (ahem... or at least have the intention) her stationary designs must be purchased!
...and of course... there's a new blog to look at too.

I’ve always wanted to have a place where I could showcase affordable, limited-edition designs by my favorite independent artists; I feel strongly about supporting the fantastic community of indie designers making their own goods by hand.
-Grace Bonney, design*sponge

Design*sponge has a shop!? Luckily for my bank account, our insurance went up $100 this month thus I'm currently shocked into spendthrift mode (temporary affliction I hope).

Reasons why the design*sponge shop is a wonderful thing:
1. 10% of the site 's advertising revenue will be gifted to a rotating charity
2. All pieces are exclusive to the design*sponge shop
3. Nothing will ever be priced at more than $100.
4. Global shipping
5. The independent artists take home 100% of the profit!
6. New products every month!

Wow!

Now if you excuse me, I have an appointment with my insurance agent (seriously...100 bucks!?).

(via inside a black apple) Visit Ashley (& Drew!) at kittygenius.com. Her pieces are gorgeous and I'm so glad to have discovered her work! I'll be keeping an eye on the etsy shop for more original work to be released (the last piece she posted was snatched up within minutes... I have such bad art buying luck).

None of the Threadless tees have really spoken to me lately, but today there were three designs that I really love and wouldn't mind at all if someone bought me one...say...for a birthday coming up... or somethin'. Maybe a "hey, you don't know me but I was just thinkin' about ya" type of gift. I'll be a little unnerved by it but I'll still have a kickin' new shirt, so who cares.

( via Something old, Something new)The work ofkhW Jewelry is exactly the style of jewelry I was looking for to wear on my wedding day. Ethereal and organic at the same time without looking too prissy.

These were the pieces I had intended on wearing to the wedding. A carnelian chokerand matching earings by a Thai artist named Busarin, featured on Novica.com. After all, if you can't buy from an independent craftswoman... buy freetrade!

yet more from Busarin...

As I said, I intended on wearing these pieces, but Chris had other plans. Right before the picture taking began, Chris gave me a special gift. When Chris and I first began dating he had given me a pearl that he had bought when he was a little boy. The story goes that he asked his parents to buy the pearl so that he could someday give it the girl he was going to marry... because evidently those are the kinds of things that nine year old Chris thought about. While the necklace was beautiful, the setting was in yellow gold so I rarely wore it (gold snob, that's me). As my wedding gift, Chris had the setting rhodium plated and replaced the chain. So what's a girl to do? Forget carnelian and go it sentimental style, that's what.
