See that there? That's a Blueprint clipping from 19diggity7 which shows a swatch of THE PERFECT fabric for my kitchen roller shades. For two months I've had the fabric sample in my purse, but at $42.95 a yard I was having trouble bucking up the courage to up and call. There are children starving who need new shoes and all. But this morning I was sick of the swatch's high end taunting, and I finally, FINALLY, made the call to place the order. After all, that's why I have a credit card, right?

So I called up B & J Fabrics (the only resale source for the fabric that I've been able to track down), and now it looks like they may be out of stock. Well. Of course they are.

I'm calling upon the powers of the blogosphere to aid me in sending good thoughts and unicorns to B & J's so that they will call back with good news tomorrow. Just in case my embroidered linen world crumbles, does anyone out there have any suggestions for another source? Perhaps a suitable replacement? The fate of my kitchen is in your hands!

John Allison, the creator of Scary Go Round, has released a new tote- Once I Buy it, It's Safe. Which is true... this tote just won't be safe until I buy it... It's my solemn duty. I gotta show those exchange rates who's boss!
Not only is it a pretty rockin' and Earth friendly shopping bag...but by buying it you'll be supporting a fantastic webcomic which every single one of you should start reading immediately. No seriously... right now. This blog isn't even good, what are you still doing here?

We haven't done t-shirts in awhile have we? My apologies...

1. Take This- Noisebot 2. Just Don't Care- Palmer Cash 3. Windy City- Lucky Threads
4. A Diamond is Forever- Palmer Cash 5. Kern- Veer 6. Bad Decision- Questionable Content
7. I smell- No Star 8. Audio Visual- Palmer Cash 9. Yes You Are- Threadless

Can I just say that the day I first laid eyes on the Kern zip up hoodie from Veer was just about the best day of my entire life? Yeah, that's right... surpassing wedding day, house closing day... blah blah blah. All I'm saying is that the birth of my first child has a lot to live up to, is all.
Oh, and Dad? I'm totally buying you the first one for the next occasion that calls for dad gifts. The surgical nurses will love it. Seriously.
This post represents one hour and thirty minutes that could have been spent working on bathroom demo. Instead, my eyes are all glazed over and now you have pretty shirts to look. Now, If you'll excuse me, I have to run up stairs before Chris gets home so I can pretend that I've been working this whole time.

Sadly, this mail slot won't quite work for our house as our front door is made almost entirely from glass. You better believe that I considered every possible position for it, though, including and not limited to putting a hole in our wall. Then I woke up from ebay dementia and decided that a door knocker on the wall might be... unnecessary.

Someone, SOMEONE, needs to bid on it. Go to ebay! Give them your money!

If a bunch of people wanted to get together and buy me the Richard Nixon throw from Jonathan Adler (orange please), I would be delighted. It is very necessary. Really. It would... how do they say on HGTV? ...ah yes, "Pop". $295 for a throw seems just a little frivolous when I have an entire bathroom to remodel. I wish the internets had a layaway program.

More lovely things for my guest room from Pillows and Throws:
Robyn Pillow $50
Zach Pillow $50
Coral Rug $150
Buds rug $270

Who decided that pillows should be so expensive? Looks like I'm gonna be doin'me some sewin'.

Confession time... I'm getting a little bit excited... but don't tell! I don't want to jinx it. I have a song and it goes like this, "New house, new house! LALALALA!" It's very annoying. I'm quite proud of it.

If all goes according to plan, we close on Thursday. And then? Well, I guess we'll eventually move in. Next week I'm taking a bit of vacation to start packing and job hunting. You'd think that with only two people in our tiny 725 sq. ft. house, it would be a cinch to move. Wrong. We have so much stuff that sometimes it feels like we live in a storage unit... one of those plush units with temperature control... but still. I have a LOT of work ahead of me.

Here's a link to our new neighborhood Brady Heights. It is the awesome.

I've also begun a little bit of planning for the great amount of cosmetic remodeling the house will require. So, without further stalling... here is the very first picture from the new house to appear on the blog! Woohoo!

We'll start out small. Behind the dining room there is a second living area without much purpose. Chris and I have dubbed it "The Mystery Room". Since there is already a breakfast nook off the kitchen and we'll be using the third bedroom as a joint studio, most likely we'll be using the Mystery Room as a study. The space has a half bath attached to it as well as a door to the outside. Because of its lack of purpose and distance from the front door, as well as it's current status as the ugliest room in the house, we've decided to start our renovations here. Paint stripping will come first and hopefully the wood underneath will be gorgeous after a little staining. Add some Orla Keily wallpaper from Anthropologie, some paint, a fixture from Schoolhouse Electric ...and we're all set! I hope you guys enjoy my Photoshop mastery. If you have any advice or suggestions, let me know.

Thanks for the reassurances on our house situation but OH MY LORD if you guys knew what the seller (Wells Fargo Bank of the Devil) has put us through, you'd be hesitant too. I won't be popping corks of any kind until the day of closing... and even then I'll still probably be a little nervous about it. Of course that hasn't stopped me from making an insanely long wish list over at boxedup.com. I'm going to be pretty disappointed when I finally realize that I'm poor. But, for right now at least, denial is fun!

I bet you've been wondering what kind of impulsive ebay purchases I've been making for the new house this week. Wonder no more!

1. "Composition Head Cloth Doll in Polish Costume 1950s-60s"- The fabric on her dress ordered me to buy her for the guestroom.
2. "ADVERTISING BLANKET 5 CENT HAMBURGER SODA VINTAGE" -An advertising blanket!? Um, yes please!
3. "1972 SHIRLEY CHISHOLM FOR PRESIDENT BUTTONS" - Before Barack or Hillary, there was Shirley! I'll be framing these to hang... somewhere...
4."vintage 1940s WITNEY REGULUS Wool Blanket 68x96 ENGLAND"- Bedspread for the guest bedroom. Luckily it matches well with the polish doll.

Trust me when I say my ebaying could've turned out a lot worse. I wish someone would have told me how expensive a Saarinen tulip table would be BEFORE I made up my mind that my breakfast room just won't be complete without it. I blame the Domino Magazine pool on flickr. Specifically, this photo right here...

I Brought This Upon Myself, Vintage Vantage 6. 100% Wool, Cotton Factory 7. Smiles are Contagious, No Star 8. Jinx! You Owe Me a Soda!, Snorg Tees 9. Bring your own Boo Ya!, Cotton Factory

No I haven't been playing World of Warcraft... I don't know what you're talking about. Hush.

And now, a note.

Dear Dental Hygenist,
You're a very nice girl so please don't take this the wrong way. What I have to tell you is out of love.
Dude. You've got to tone it down. I mean, really, your schtick might work on the under-12 set, but I don't like to be patted on the shoulder or called "dear" by a 19 year old. You may have an endearingly apologetic giggle but it doesn't change the fact that you almost suctioned my lip off while you were busy chatting about Britney's hair. Call me a "real little trooper" again and I just might have to take my teeth elsewhere.
See you in September!
Marissa
P.S. No, I did not "make up" my name. There are actually quite a few of us.

On the Anthropologie site you'll find three quilts by Denyse Schmidt hidden in their "Throws and Blankets" section. $400 seems relatively inexpensive for a queen sized quilt, so it's hard to say how involved her studio was in their making.

I've decided to keep my eye out for bedding since my mother-in-law's quilt won't be ready for awhile. Of course, the only set that I've fallen in love with would put me back around $900. But it's so pretty! Maybe I'll just wait for the quilt...

Okay, so I know Christmas is over and everything, but if you're sitting at home thinking "Oh lord! I forgot to buy Marissa a Christmas present! How will I live with my shame?!" Then calm down a minute and let me help. It's not too late!
May I suggest these lovely curtains from Urban Outfitters? These would look pretty fabulous in my studio, don't you think? Oh no, you don't have to buy me all four. Just one or two to help me on my way.
No? Then how about this lamp shade? Not the lamp itself– Chris told me that if I brought any more owl themed paraphernalia into the house there would be a little owly massacre. Evidently he thinks I have a problem. But, see, I have a new computer desk in the studio and it would look marvelous. I swear to you!

So... you know... think about it.

Beautiful fabric from Japanese designer Shinzi Katoh available at Superbuzzy.com... but not for long. As of this posting there's only one left. So hurry! Quick!
One meter of fabric for $19.95 would be hard for me to justify. Not to mention that the package would sit on my shelf indefinitely, since I would certainly be too intimidated by its rarity to use it. But you should buy it, cause it's fantastic. And you should make fantastic things from it.

(via decor8)
Arjen Veenman is a dutch designer with a dutch website that I can't read at all. So, I can tell you nothing about this bookcase except that it's made from a discarded piano. And that I want it very much. It gives me the urge to wander back alleys searching for long lost pianos... Doesn't seem to be that likely in these here parts which is probably good for everyone involved (especially the dutch).

Yet another variation on the flower broach. I may be living under a giant rock that's shaped like Oklahoma, but I'd like to think that I've seen a few things in my day... and these broaches by Kate Cusack are the first I've seen using zippers. Pretty cool, uncommon goods. Pretty cool.

Have I mentioned that I love Pink Loves Brown? No?! Well... what have I been doing all this time?!
Pink Loves Brown is the web-child of Nicole Balch ("former face-painter, window-dresser, and dinosaur muralist" according to the site) and is the place for personalized paper good awesomeness.
My love for this site is healthy and natural and, don't worry, Nicole's been warned about me... she even sent me a lollipop... I think she might like me back!
Back when I was on The Knot I used to recommend her site to the point that the other Knotties began to suspect I was on her payroll. Her personlaized stationary and bookplates are the perfect gift for bridesmaids and hostesses. AWESOME! So there, now it's out there... and I feel so much better.

Have you voted yet?! DO IT!

Have you ever looked at the word "chihuahua"? I mean really looked at it and sounded it out? Funny word. "Tchi-whoah-whoah". Heh.

Chris and I are desperately trying to devise a plan to lure trick-or-treaters to our house. We always buy the best candy, we carve kickin' jack o'lanterns, we leave the porch light on, we stay at home during the prime hours of 6 till 9... and we sit...and we wait...
Last year we had six kids. Six total. All night. Two of 'em weren't even in costumes (and had facial hair). If we don't have more kids this year than I'm afraid the spirit of Halloween will leave our household forever. Maybe I need more Halloween décor. The kids love festive seasonal décor!

Check out these vintage inspired designs from Christmas Traditions:

1.Wise up! Painted Tin Sign Chris absolutely hates it when I hang seasonal junk on the door. Somehow he always ends up hitting himself in the face. I bought this one anyway...I know it will be different this time.

2.Painted Tin Garland This will look awesome above the piano! For sure!

3.Set of three Owl Ornaments None of these for me, since I've been mocked for my recent increase in owl related purchases. My husband is so cruel.

4.Jack O' Lantern Paper Maché Basket I'd be all over this if I hadn't just read about making my own in Martha Stewart Living (this one's nearly sixty bucks).

5.Glittery Garland When you live in a house the size of a postage stamp, you can never have too much garland!

More halloween goodness!

1. Scary Pumpkin Head Rattle of Doom! It's peal will summon the apocalypse! ... maybe we'll leave this one alone. Vintage Halloween Store

2. Little Chenille Pumpkin Men Much more fuzzy and less unsettling than the rattle.Christmas Traditions

3. Halloween Vintage Picks For fancy cupcakes and for poking people. Vintage Halloween Store

4. Vintage Treat Bags These should be framed, not handed out to unappreciative and sticky-handed children! Spook Shows

5.Tin Cat Head Container Cause it's always fun to stick things in a cat's head. Christmas Traditions

I love how the crafty ladies of the web have intertwined etsy and flickr. While cruising the "I made it myself" group on Flickr, I found my way to Bookworm Sukie's etsy shop. This Canadian craftster has a plethora of beautifully designed blank books and notebooks for your perusal. Each cover is decorated with one of her original patterns. I love a girl with book binding skills!

This gift set is especially adorable.

You know what makes me happy? New birthday shoes!

Especially when those new birthday shoes are the owl print Keds from Eleanor Grosch! Do you own these yet? Why not!? They haven't left my feet since my mom presented them to me on Sunday night. They're like a second skin to me now (a second skin with a tough rubber sole so that I don't hurt my actual skin).
Of course new birthday shoes aren't the only things that make me happy, I'm not that shallow... but they are right up there on the list, between world peace and puppies.

"We are so thrilled to be collaborating with Eleanor. She has brilliantly blended her youthful, iconic designs with the Keds aesthetic and the end result is a very exciting and sophisticated debut collection. Eleanor's medium of poster art links music, graphics and culture in a powerful way. Keds recognized a great opportunity to connect to a young, music-savvy consumer with Eleanor's talent for design and her unique perspective into the world of indie rock. She was a natural choice," -Wendy Yang, Senior Vice President of Product, Keds.

Ah! You got me Keds! Sneaky devils!

I’ve always wanted to have a place where I could showcase affordable, limited-edition designs by my favorite independent artists; I feel strongly about supporting the fantastic community of indie designers making their own goods by hand.
-Grace Bonney, design*sponge

Design*sponge has a shop!? Luckily for my bank account, our insurance went up $100 this month thus I'm currently shocked into spendthrift mode (temporary affliction I hope).

Reasons why the design*sponge shop is a wonderful thing:
1. 10% of the site 's advertising revenue will be gifted to a rotating charity
2. All pieces are exclusive to the design*sponge shop
3. Nothing will ever be priced at more than $100.
4. Global shipping
5. The independent artists take home 100% of the profit!
6. New products every month!

Wow!

Now if you excuse me, I have an appointment with my insurance agent (seriously...100 bucks!?).

None of the Threadless tees have really spoken to me lately, but today there were three designs that I really love and wouldn't mind at all if someone bought me one...say...for a birthday coming up... or somethin'. Maybe a "hey, you don't know me but I was just thinkin' about ya" type of gift. I'll be a little unnerved by it but I'll still have a kickin' new shirt, so who cares.

( via Something old, Something new)The work ofkhW Jewelry is exactly the style of jewelry I was looking for to wear on my wedding day. Ethereal and organic at the same time without looking too prissy.

These were the pieces I had intended on wearing to the wedding. A carnelian chokerand matching earings by a Thai artist named Busarin, featured on Novica.com. After all, if you can't buy from an independent craftswoman... buy freetrade!

yet more from Busarin...

As I said, I intended on wearing these pieces, but Chris had other plans. Right before the picture taking began, Chris gave me a special gift. When Chris and I first began dating he had given me a pearl that he had bought when he was a little boy. The story goes that he asked his parents to buy the pearl so that he could someday give it the girl he was going to marry... because evidently those are the kinds of things that nine year old Chris thought about. While the necklace was beautiful, the setting was in yellow gold so I rarely wore it (gold snob, that's me). As my wedding gift, Chris had the setting rhodium plated and replaced the chain. So what's a girl to do? Forget carnelian and go it sentimental style, that's what.
